In view of the 79th Independence Day celebrations on Friday, August 15, the Delhi Traffic Police has issued a comprehensive traffic advisory to ensure the smooth conduct of the event. Traffic restrictions and strict regulations will be in place from 4 am to 10 am, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead the grand celebrations from the iconic Red Fort and address the nation. Commuters must note that several key roads will be closed for general traffic from Thursday night.
According to the advisory, diversions in certain routes will be enforced from 6 am on Friday. The following roads will remain shut to regular traffic, and entry will be permitted to labelled vehicles only:
- Netaji Subhash Marg from Delhi Gate to Chatta Rail.
- Lothian Road from GPO Delhi to Chatta Rail.
- S.P.Mukherjee Marg from H.C.Sen Marg to Yamuna Bazar Chowk.
- Chandni Chowk Road from Fountain Chowk to Red Fort.
- Nishad Raj Marg from Ring Road to Netaji Subhash Marg.
- Esplanade Road and its Link Road to Netaji Subhash Marg.
- Ring Road from Rajghat to ISBT.
Vehicles without parking labels for the rehearsal may avoid the following routes: C-Hexagon India Gate, Copernicus Marg, Mandi House, Sikandra Road, W Point, A Point, Tilak Marg, Mathura Road, BSZ Marg, Netaji Subhash Marg, J.L. Nehru Marg, Ring Road between Nizamuddin Khatta and ISBT Kashmiri Gate, and Outer Ring Road from Nizamuddin Khatta to ISBT Kashmiri Gate via Salimgarh Bypass.
Restrictions On Movement Of Commercial Transport And Interstate Buses
- Goods vehicles will not be permitted between Nizamuddin Khatta and Wazirabad Bridge from midnight on Aug 14 till 11 am on Aug 15.
- Inter-state buses will not be allowed between Maharana Pratap ISBT and Sarai Kale Khan ISBT from midnight on Aug 14 till 11 am on Aug 15.
Restrictions On Movement Of City Buses Apart From Restricted Roads
Local city buses, including DTC, will not operate on Ring Road from midnight on August 14, 2025, to 10 am on August 15, 2025, between ISBT Kashmiri Gate and Ring Road–NH-24 (NH-9)/NH’T’ Point (Nizamuddin Khatta). Buses will take available alternative routes during this time.
The following roads will also be closed for intercity and DTC bus movement:
- Lothian Road from Chhatta Rail Chowk to Kashmiri Gate (Boulevard Road)
- Netaji Subhash Marg from Chhatta Rail Chowk to Delhi Gate
- C. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Marg
- D. Ring Road between Nizamuddin Khatta (NH-24) and northern loop of ISBT Kashmiri Gate
- E. C-Hexagon, Sher Shah Road, Dr. Zakir Hussain Road, Pandara Road, Shahjahan Road, Akbar Road, Rajpath, Ashoka Road, KG Marg, Copernicus Marg, Tilak Marg, Purana Quila Road, Sikandra Road, Bhagwan Dass Road, and BSZ Marg
- F. Ashoka Road from Windsor Place roundabout to C-Hexagon
- G. KG Marg from Ferozeshah Road to C-Hexagon
- H. Vikas Marg beyond the loop towards Delhi Secretariat
- I. Mathura Road from Ashram Chowk to W-Point
Buses that usually terminate at Red Fort, Jama Masjid, and Delhi Main Railway Station will be curtailed or diverted as follows:
- Opposite Ramlila Ground on JLN Marg for buses approaching from South and West Delhi
- At Mori Gate and Tis Hazari for buses coming from North and North-West via Barafkhana and from East Delhi via ISBT Bridge
- At Boulevard Road opposite Maharaja Agrasen Park for buses coming from North Delhi via Ring Road
NOTE: Normal bus services will resume after 10 AM on August 15, 2025.
