IMD Issues Orange Alert For Gurugram And Faridabad; Delhi-NCR Braces For More Rain – Check Forecast

Persistent heavy showers over the past few days have caused disruption, with waterlogging and damage reported in several areas.

Delhi-NCR Weather: The rainy spell continued for the second consecutive day as heavy rain lashed Delhi-NCR on Tuesday, September 2. Visuals shared on social media platforms showed an intense downpour in Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad and parts of Delhi. The water level of the Yamuna River crossed the danger mark after heavy overnight rainfall.

There has also been significant drop in maximum temperatures, making the weather cooler. However, persistent heavy showers over the past few days have caused disruption, with waterlogging and damage reported in several areas. Inundated roads have made it difficult for people to leave their homes even for basic needs. Commuters and office-goers have been stuck in traffic for long hours. In view of this, Delhi-NCR continues to remain under alert on Tuesday.

IMD Issues Alert For Delhi-NCR, Check Forecast

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert of heavy rainfall for Gurugram, Faridabad, Yellow alert for Noida and Ghaziabad.

Active monsoon conditions are currently prevailing over Delhi. According to the IMD, these conditions are expected to persist for the next five days. A few spells of light to moderate rain/thundershowers at most places with possibility of heavy is predicted for September 2 and possibility of very light to light rain/thundershowers with moderate rain thereafter. The national capital remains under a yellow alert.  However, no immediate warning has been issued, as per the IMD Nowcast. Noida and Gurugram are also expected to experience continuous rainfall.

The IMD has forecast rainfall over Delhi until September 6. During this period, there is possibility of thundershowers accompanied by lightning. The sky is expected to remain cloudy throughout the week, while the maximum temperature is expected to remain in range of 32-24 degree Celsius.

There were reports of floodwater entering houses in Delhi-NCR. The rising water levels have caused significant traffic congestion, particularly at the Delhi-Gurugram border. Drone visuals from Loha Pul, showed Yamuna River flowing above the danger level following incessant rainfall since yesterday. Traffic and public movement on Loha Pul will be stopped from 5 pm today due to rising water level in the Yamuna. Furthermore, authorities have issued an advisory for people living in the Yamuna floodplain of Delhi to move to safety.
