Delhi Police on Sunday recovered a suspicious electronic device from a shop during verification in Palika Bazaar. These suspicious electronic devices have been called as Chinese mobile jammers. Police have arrested the shop owner identified as Ravi Mathur for illegally selling these devices.
According to Police, Ravi bought the illegal jammers from Lajpat Rai market with an intention to sell it at a higher price. The range of the recovered jammers is 50 meters. A license is required for the possession and use of Jammers, but Ravi failed to provide any such document to the police.

Mobile jammers are devices that block cellular communication like calls and texts within a specific area. As per the rules of government, private sector organization and or private individuals cannot procure/use jammers in India. This violates guidelines issued by the Cabinet Secretariat prohibiting their use or sale by individuals.
Police added that they are investigating the source of these illegal jammers and tracking potential buyers. The Telecommunication Department has been informed about the matter by the Delhi Police.
Other markets in the national capital are also searched by the Police.
Jammers are radio frequency transmitters that are designed to block all radio communication on any device that operates on of radio frequencies within its range. As per Department of Telecommunication, jammers come under the purview of Indian Wireless Telegraphy Act 1933 (FWTA 1933) and the Act lays down that license is required for possession and use of jammers.
