Gurugram: A 22-year-old woman was strangled to death by her parents and brother in her flat in Sector 102 and cremated in Jhajjar village, 50 km away from the city, in a suspected “honor killing”.
According to Police Anjali’s family was upset with her because she married someone from a different caste.
Her husband Sandeep had gone to his sister’s house in the city for a function when the three allegedly killed Anjali. Following Sandeep’s complaint, Anjali’s father Kuldeep, her mother Rinki, and brother Kunal were arrested.
Anjali got married to Sandeep on December 19 last year. Their families were against their relationship, but both decided to go against their family’s will. Anjali belongs to a Jat family, while Sandeep is a Brahmin. Both families originally hailed from Surheti village in Jhajjar.
After they both got married, Sandeep started doing a job as a bouncer in a pub, while Anjali – a B.Sc graduate – was a homemaker.
Sandeep in a Police complaint to Dhankot Police Station said that on Thursday morning, he went to his sister’s house for a function. His brother-in-law and his wife Anjali were in the flat.
Sandeep said a villager in Surheti told him around 1 pm that Anjali had died and her family was performing her last rites in her hometown. Refusing to believe the caller, Sandeep rushes to his flat but finds it locked from the outside.
