Greater Noida West: The much-awaited construction of the six-lane underpass at Char Murti in Greater Noida's Gaur City has begun. Over 50 employees and more than half a dozen JCB machines were reportedly engaged in the process on the first day of the digging work. This led to significant traffic disruption from the underpass to Ek Murti. According to News24 reporter Junaid Akhtar, the long-term infrastructure project is expected to continue causing disruptions till 2026.
Rs 82 Crore Project
Rajesh Gautam, senior manager of the Greater Noida Authority, confirmed that the digging work of the underpass has commenced. The project aims to ease traffic congestion by linking Greater Noida to Ghaziabad and the Delhi-Meerut Expressway. Rs 82 crore has been allocated for the project, spanning 720 meters, he added. Additionally, the underpass will connect to the proposed Greater Noida West Metro line.

Reason For Delay In Construction Work
Keeping in view the growing pollution and traffic congestion, the residents have been demanding this underpass for quite a long time now. Rajesh Gautam explained that the delay in the project was mainly due to Supreme Court restrictions on the air quality measures. However, the construction has officially begun now. Once completed, the underpass will bring the much-needed respite to the commuters.

End of Decade-Long Traffic Jam
The construction is aimed to end the persistent traffic jams along the route over a decade. Furthermore, the approval of the elevated road from Shahberi to the crossing is expected to provide relief to nearly five lakh people from massive traffic jams.
