Delhi: Metro commuters in Delhi can now easily book metro tickets on the Uber app. The transportation company on Monday rolled out the metro ticketing facility on the app, powered by the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC). As a part of this initiative, Delhi Metro is the first city to offer this service. Uber users in Delhi can plan their metro journeys, purchase QR-based tickets, and access real-time transit information – all within the Uber app. This new integration aims to enhance the convenience of public transport by making it more accessible and seamless for daily commuters.
What Did Uber Say?
Uber stated that this marks the first integration with India’s pioneering digital public infrastructure and a major step forward in making public transport more connected. The company added that three more cities across India are slated to offer service in 2025.
Notably, this integration follows the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in 2024 during Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi’s visit to India, where Uber pledged to collaborate with ONDC to advance the reach and impact of India’s digital public infrastructure.
The launch of this ticketing service, reiterates Uber’s mission to make urban mobility more inclusive, sustainable, and seamlessly connected.
Praveen Neppalli Naga, Chief Technology Officer, Uber, said “India has taken an impressive leap in building population scale technology through its Digital Public Infrastructure like ONDC and we are thrilled to integrate with them to bring metro ticketing to the Uber app.”
DMRC And ONDC Integration
With this initiative, passengers no longer have to download the metro app separately or switch between digital platforms. DMRC’s collaboration with the ONDC network is particularly noteworthy, given that DMRC serves an average of 65 lakh passengers per day, taking users one step closer to a seamless, truly accessible and passenger-centric digital mobility ecosystem.
With the technology service provider SequelString AI (SAI) facilitating the integration, DMRC’s ticketing services can now be accessed at multiple digital touchpoints – including mobility apps and travel platforms, and even Telegram bots.
Earlier, DMRC Managing Director Dr Vikas Kumar said, “This partnership with ONDC is our effort to simplify metro travel and bring it to people’s everyday digital platforms.”
