The Namo Bharat train will start rolling in the 12 km stretch between the Sahibabad and the New Ashok Nagar on the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor. This section accommodates the Anand Vihar station and is a gigantic step towards providing rapid connectivity for commuters from the Meerut South RRTS station to the New Ashok Nagar. When the train service will be ready, traveling between these two stations will take less than 40 minutes. The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) is executing the project.
Important Milestone For The Corridor
“An important milestone has been reached now since Namo Bharat trains are finally entering Delhi, which brings the Delhi section closer to the already running part from Sahibabad to Meerut South,” said Puneet Vats, spokesman of NCRTC. The Managing Director of NCRTC, Shalabh Goel, along with other senior officials, attended the function for the celebration of the achievement. During the trial, the train was operated manually to ensure that it goes along with the existing structures.
Safety Tests Of Namo Bharat
NCRTC will test the trains with thorough reviews of various systems like tracks, signalling systems, platform screen doors, and power supply systems to determine how well they function. There will be many trial runs – even high-speed tests – over the coming months to ensure everything is at an acceptable level before regular operations start.
Improving Connectivity And Accessibility
The Anand Vihar RRTS station is also going to be one of the busiest transit points because it is located near a metro station that has been connecting two lines, a railway station, and two ISBTs. The New Ashok Nagar RRTS station is only within 100 meters from the New Ashok Nagar metro station. To link both these modes of transport, NCRTC will build a foot overbridge (FOB) coupled with connecting the concourse of metro and RRTS stations. For better access, two more FOBs shall be constructed.

Increasing Operational Length
Now, the Namo Bharat train runs 42 km length from Sahibabad to Meerut South and passes through nine stations: Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai, Duhai Depot, Muradnagar, Modi Nagar South, Modi Nagar North, and Meerut South. When this new section is added from Sahibabad to New Ashok Nagar, it will amount to a total operational length of 54 km with 11 RRTS stations.
Future Developments And Time Scale
There will be three stations in the Delhi section: New Ashok Nagar, Anand Vihar, and Sarai Kale Khan RRTS station. The work on the remaining section from New Ashok Nagar to Sarai Kale Khan is almost complete and track laying is going on. The fourth station along with stabling yard Jangpura will be developed later. NCRTC officials believe that the journey time from Delhi to Meerut would be below one hour by June 2025 when the entire corridor of 82-km length will be completed.
