Seven-year-old Riya was one of the 18 people who lost their lives in the tragic stampede at New Delhi Railway Station on Saturday. She was trying to leave with her parents after they decided to cancel their trip because of the huge crowd.
Opal Singh, a father of two young girls from Delhi, didn’t want to take any chances when he saw the huge crowd at New Delhi Railway Station on Saturday night. He had come with his wife, daughters, and two brothers to travel to Prayagraj, but after seeing the chaos, he decided to go back home. Sadly, while trying to leave the station, Singh lost his younger daughter Riya in the stampede.
Singh told the entire story and he started by saying, “As soon as we started climbing the steps, thousands of people around 5,000 to 7,000 suddenly came rushing down from above. People fell over one another along with their luggage, leaving no chance to save themselves,”
In few seconds, tragedy unfolded and people started to bleed from their nose.
Singh further said that “My child got stuck on the iron railings, and a nail pierced her head, she was just seven years old…”
”I couldn’t save my younger daughter,” Singh said. “We were trying to return home. “We didn’t want to risk our lives in that mad rush.”
Singh and his family frantically searched for help to take Riya to the hospital, but no one was there to assist them. After struggling, they finally reached a hospital within half an hour, but sadly, the girl passed away from her injuries.
