Diwali Rush Triggers Major Traffic Congestion Across Delhi-NCR; Heavy Jams at IFFCO Chowk, ITO, Chanakyapuri

Visuals from Chanakyapuri, ITO show long lines of honking vehicles, bumper-to-bumper traffic, and flashing brake lights stretched for kilometers. The five-day Diwali festival, which begins with Dhanteras, also known as Dhanatrayodashi will be celebrated on October 18, Saturday.

With Diwali festivities set to begin on Saturday, October 18, preparations are in full swing across Delhi-NCR. The festive shopping rush has led to long queues of vehicles, causing significant delays for commuters. On Friday, October 17, heavy traffic congestion was reported at IFFCO Chowk in Gurugram.

Several parts of Delhi, including Chanakyapuri also witnessed increased traffic due to the ongoing festive activities. Crowded markets, increased footfall, and roadside parking have further worsened the situation in some areas. ITO in Delhi also turned into traffic bottleneck on Friday evening.

The roads appeared packed, with hardly any space to move, as festive crowds and evening rush added to the chaos. In such situation, commuters are urged to stay updated through traffic advisories and navigation apps.

Diversions in Sector 18 Atta Market for Dhanteras, Diwali Rush

Meanwhile, in view of the upcoming festivals such as Dhanteras and Diwali, the Noida Traffic Police has informed the general public about a significant increase in footfall expected in markets and shopping malls, especially in areas like Sector 18 Atta Market. The increased crowd is likely to cause traffic congestion on major roads.

To minimise inconvenience, the public is advised to use public transport and the metro as much as possible. They have been urged to avoid parking vehicles on roads and ensure to use designated parking areas while shopping. According to Noida Traffic Police, traffic diversions will be implemented in and around Sector 18 Atta Market as necessary to manage the flow of vehicles. Issuing the advisory, the traffic police has requested all citizens to cooperate and follow traffic guidelines to ensure smooth and safe movement for everyone during the festive season.
