The National Capital continues to struggle with bad air quality on Saturday after pollution levels reached alarming heights. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Delhi’s average Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 278, which falls under ‘poor’ category.
A thin layer of smog engulfed the city yesterday as the AQI dropped to 226. The worst AQI was reported in the Anand Vihar and Akshardham regions reaching 334, classified as ‘very poor’. This was followed by AIIMS at 253 and India Gate at 251.
The situation remains dire as this marks the fourth consecutive day when Delhi remains in the ‘poor category’. Amid rising pollution levels, toxic foam was spotted floating on the Yamuna River.

Anand Vihar Faces The Brunt
Anand Vihar topped the chart of the worst affected cities, reaching an AQI of 450 at 4 PM on Saturday, classified as ‘severe’ for the entire day. Among the other most affected areas, which falls under ‘very poor’ category are:
- Wazirpur: 349
- Bawana: 345
- Dwarka Sector 8: 328
- Rohini: 322
- Shadipur: 306
Conditions Likely To Deteriorate
The Early Warning System (EWS) anticipates further deterioration in air quality in the coming next few days in Delhi. EWS has warned that the air quality is likely to remain in the ‘very poor’ category starting today till Tuesday, and poor to very poor conditions during the week ahead.
Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai indicated that additional deterioration is expected post-Diwali celebrations.
