In the morning hours after Diwali, Delhi witnessed a layer of smog and AQI which was recorded at 362 as per CPCB data. However, Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai on Friday said that level of air pollution in Delhi was under control. He said that rise in air pollution level was expected in the national capital following Diwali celebration, but a control was observed.
Speaking to ANI, Gopal Rai called it a success of the collective efforts of people and all the Departments in Delhi. He congratulated Delhiites for the success and being a responsible citizen. He appreciated their act of lighting candles, diyas and avoiding firecrackers on occasion of Diwali.
Gopal Rai said, “Delhi’s air quality has been in ‘Very Poor’ category for the past few days. People had predicted that there would be a rise in the level of air pollution in Delhi on the next day of Diwali, but we can see it the pollution level has remained under control. This is the success of the collective efforts of the people of Delhi and all departments.”
Rai said that by the next year, he hopes to make those people understand who burnt crackers in Delhi this year, to not burst crackers. “I hope by next year we will be able to make those who burst firecrackers also understand this. From today, we are increasing the sprinkling of water across Delhi to control air pollution levels…,” added Delhi Minister.
Water Sprinkling Drive To Increase
He said that to control the air pollution level, Delhi government is starting special drive of sprinkling water in national capital from today. This will be done to maintain the pollution level after Diwali, so that it doesn’t’ get severe. He urged people to participate and help government to tackle deteriorating air quality level by doing their bits.
Gopal Rai On Firecrackers Burnt Despite A Ban
On question of firecrackers burnt in Delhi despite the ban, Delhi Minister Gopal Rai replied that firecrackers were not burst on a large scale in Delhi. He said that this indicates the change in mindset of the people of Delhi. He added that people of Delhi are moving forward to improve the environment of Delhi.
Gopal Rai further added that it’s important to celebrate happiness but it’s also important to save the people. He said the support of people for environmental cause have increased.
