Delhi: Young Cop Stabbed To Death In Govindpuri, Main Suspect Killed In Police Encounter – Who Were The Attackers?

Another suspect Deepak was arrested by Delhi Police's Crime Branch on Saturday in a separate operation. Providing insights into the fatal incident, DCP Crime Branch Sanjay Kumar Sain said that Constable Kiranpal was stabbed to death by criminals when he stopped them for check.

New Delhi: In a deadly turn of events, a 28-year-old Delhi Police constable was stabbed to death by three drunk men in south Delhi’s Govindpuri on early Saturday. The patrol cop, named Kiranpal Singh was stationed at a police booth near the Arya Samaj Mandir area, along with two other constables. However, the main accused Raghav alias Rocky, involved in the murder of the young Delhi cop has been killed in an encounter with a joint team during the late hours of Saturday, police said.

According to reports, around 4:45 am, one of the constables patrolling with Kiranpal left the booth for some official work. Upon his return, he realized the victim was missing. After his phone went unanswered, police launched a search operation. He was later found lying unconscious with stab wounds, near Sant Ravidas Marg, Govindpuri.

Cop Attacked On Duty

“The injured cop was rushed to Majidiya Hospital, but he was declared dead,” the police said. The investigations revealed that the cop was attacked while on duty, post which a criminal case vide FIR No. 603/2024 was registered under the relevant sections.

Police Track Down The Suspects, Main Accused Killed

In the late hours of November 23, the police received information regarding the whereabouts of the prime suspect Raghav, a resident of D Block, Sangam Vihar.

“Close to midnight, the suspect was positively identified and after identifying themselves, the police personnel instructed the suspect to surrender himself for questioning. Not heeding the calls made by the police team, the suspect, in a premeditated manner, opened fire from a close distance at the police party using a firearm that he was carrying. In self-defense, the police team retaliated, which led to the suspect being injured by gunshot wounds,” ANI quoted a police official as saying.

“Post the defensive maneuver, the accused was taken to a Hospital in Okhla, where he succumbed to his injuries,” reports added. The police recovered a .32 bore pistol with two live rounds from the accused.

“One of the teams deployed to nab the accused got a lead and we found one of them. When we asked him to surrender, he opened fire. He was shot at in the leg after and was captured,” DCP added.
