In a shocking incident, a 48-year-old woman was stabbed to death inside a temple in east Delhi’s Mansarovar Park area on Sunday, police said. The police recovered the weapon used in the crime.
Incident took place inside temple
According to PTI, the incident took place at noon inside a temple situated in a DDA flats complex. The woman was offering prayers when she was attacked.
Police were alerted around 12 pm through a PCR call about the incident.
Victim was rushed to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital
The victim, identified as Kusum Sharma, sustained several stab wounds and was rushed to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
“We have detained the main accused, a woman identified as Anchal Saxena. The weapon of offence has also been recovered,” PTI quoted DCP (Shahdara) Prashant Gautam as saying.
Victim was attacked multiple times
Police said they were informed that two people stabbed the woman priest in the head. A woman has already been detained in the case. The initial probe suggested that Kusum Sharma was attacked multiple times with a knife, which led to her death.
DCP: Multiple teams have been formed to probe the case
“Prima facie, it appears to be an old enmity, but further investigation into the matter is underway. Multiple teams have been formed to investigate the case,” the DCP further said.
The Delhi Police have launched a probe into the case. They are examining CCTV footage from the area, and local intelligence has also been pressed into service to establish the identity of the other assailant. A forensic team has also visited the spot.
