Delhi Weather Update: Delhi experienced one of its highest temperatures of the season on Tuesday. The maximum temperature was recorded 41°C with humidity level of 69 per cent. A Yellow alert for heatwave was issued in the national capital, leaving residents to reel under scorching heat. The hot spell is expected to continue until Thursday, April 10, with maximum temperature in the range of 40-41 degrees Celsius. A slight decline in the maximum temperature is expected Thursday, with temperature in the range of 37-39 degrees Celsius. While the days are turning hotter, some areas of Delhi have reported warm nights.
Delhi Weather Update: Forecast For Wednesday, April 9
Talking about how the weather will remain on Wednesday, April 9, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast indicates of a hot day. The maximum temperature is expected to remain 41 degrees Celsius. A yellow alert for heatwave has been issued for today, by the IMD. The sky will remain clear today with maximum humidity level of 47 per cent. Warm night conditions will prevail over Delhi today.

Residents will continue to face challenges, as yellow alert for heatwave has been issued until April 10. The maximum temperature will remain 41°C until Thursday and decrease thereafter.

Delhi Weather Update: When To Expect Relief?

The sky will remain clear until April 9 and will turn partly cloudy from April 10 and remain so until April 13. Residents are expected to get relief from heatwave on April 11, as thunderstorm and gusty winds with high speed have been forecasted for Friday. The weather will further change as light rain/ drizzle accompanied with thunderstorm is likely on April 12. No heatwave conditions have been forecasted after April 10 this week. This is expected to bring little respite from the hot weather. Notably, MeT defines a heat wave as when the maximum temperature in the plains reaches at least 40 degrees Celsius or is 5 degrees above normal.
Hot Summer Days Ahead

IMD Director General Dr Mrutyunjay Mohapatra earlier warned of an exceptionally hot summer ahead. He ruled out the presence of El Nino conditions for the upcoming monsoon and alerted of hot summer season. He told ANI, “We are not expecting El Nino conditions during the monsoon season. April- June to be hotter than usual, with more heatwave days likely in many states.”
Precautionary Measures
Residents are advised to take precautionary measures to protect themselves from the effects of hot weather. Keeping in view the weather forecast for April 9-13, and heatwave alert, people are advised to stay hydrated, cover themselves when going outdoors, carry umbrellas and include water-rich fruits and vegetables in their diets. They should refrain from engaging in heavy physical activities during the day.
