Delhi Weather Update: IMD Warns Of Gusty Winds, Temperature Nears 40°C – Will Heat Wave Follow?

According to IMD data, Ridge in Delhi recorded a temperature of 40.1°C on Wednesday, marking a departure of 6.3°C from the normal range.

Delhi Weather Update: There will be a brief respite for Delhi residents as the maximum temperature is expected to remain 33 degrees Celsius on Friday. The day will be further affected by the strong surface winds which will prevail with speed of 15-25 km/h. It is expected to occasionally gust to 35 km/h. The national capital has been experiencing rising temperatures with range of 38 to 40 degrees Celsius. Earlier on Wednesday, Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 40.5°C in some parts of the city, according to a data released by the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD). March 26 was one of the hottest days of the month. The temperature was among the highest recorded across the country.

Will Heat Wave Follow?

The sky will remain partly cloudy today. IMD stated that maximum and minimum temperatures are in the range of 36 to 38°C and 17 to 22°C respectively. While the temperatures have risen in the national capital, humid conditions and heat wave have not been reported yet. Notably, MeT defines a heat wave as when the maximum temperature in the plains reaches at least 40 degrees Celsius or is 5 degrees above normal. Therefore, heat wave warning will be issued when the temperature touches 40 degrees Celsius and remains 5 above degrees normal. According to the IMD, maximum temperatures are appreciably above normal by 3-5°Cover most places over Delhi.

Delhi Weather Update: Forecast For Next 3 Days

Talking about how the weather will be in coming days, the IMD forecast tells us of rising temperatures and hot conditions. March is expected to end with maximum temperature of 35 degrees Celsius. Whereas April will begin with a maximum temperature of 37 degrees Celsius. It is further expected to remain 33 degrees Celsius on 29th March. A temperature of 35°C is forecasted for 30th March.  Along with the rising temperatures, strong surface winds prevail over the national capital from until 29th March with speed of 15-20 km/h. Clear sky conditions have been predicted until 31st March, except for March 29, when it will remain partly cloudy.

AQI In Delhi

The air quality in the national capital continues to remain in the ‘poor’ category. The AQI was recorded at 234 on Friday at 6 am, according to the CPCB.
