The project will include the construction of a nearly 4-kilometer tunnel directly connecting the two points. It will directly connect Inderlok to Kashmiri Gate. The project is expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion in busy areas such as Mukarba Chowk, Azadpur, and Roshanara Road, cutting travel time by up to 40% for commuters. It will significantly benefit commuters travelling between the Delhi-Haryana border and central Delhi.

Mukarba Chowk and Azadpur traffic to ease

Mukarba Chowk, Azadpur, and Roshanara Road usually face heavy traffic congestion during peak hours. Once complete and operational, this tunnel will ensure smoother flow. Daily commuters, office-goers, and commercial transport vehicles will particularly benefit from this.

“Our government has taken a significant step towards making the capital’s traffic smooth and signal-free. The PWD department is now working on a plan to extend the Munak Canal Elevated Road from Inderlok to ISBT Kashmiri Gate. Under this extension, a tunnel approximately 4 kilometers long will be constructed, which will directly connect Inderlok to Kashmiri Gate. This will provide major relief to those traveling to and from the Delhi-Haryana border to Central Delhi. Traffic pressure in jam-prone areas like Mukarba Chowk, Azadpur, and Roshanara Road will reduce, and travel time will decrease by about 40%,” Singh wrote in a post on X.
