Delhi: Robbers Loot Rs 60 Lakh At Gunpoint, Caught In Punjab After Dramatic 400-km Chase

Two men were arrested after looting Rs 60 lakh at gunpoint in Delhi and leading police on a 400-km chase across multiple states.

Two men, including a Delhi University graduate, were arrested in Panipat, Haryana, for allegedly robbing Rs60 lakh from a businessman’s employee at gunpoint in the Hauz Qazi area of central Delhi, police said on Friday.

The robbers have been identified as Amit,34, and Ravi Gupta, 40. Police said Ravi is a former Delhi University student and used to work for a multinational electronics company.

According to the complaint, the trader’s employee was taking a bag full of cash out of his scooter on Monday when the robbers approached and stopped him.

Robbery Caught on Camera, Police Track Robbers Across Delhi

“The complainant stated that he had collected around ₹60 lakh from a business associate on April 28 and was lifting the cash bag from his scooter outside his employer’s residence when one of the accused held him at gunpoint and fled with the bag on a motorcycle,” deputy commissioner of police (central) M Harsha Vardhan said.

The case was registered at Hauz Qazi Police Station. Police checked footage from over 100 CCTV cameras and found that the robbers had taken a route through Chandni Chowk, Haiderpur, Badli Mor, Dashrathpuri Metro Station, Suraj Park, and Red Fort Road, the officer said.

Robbers Caught After 400-km Chase Across States

Police said the stolen motorcycle was tracked was tracked through several cities in Haryana and Punjab, including Chandigarh, Zirakpur, Panchkula, and Samalkha. The two accused were caught in Panipat after a 400-km chase across these cities. According to police, Gupta has a criminal record with 12 cases of robbery, theft, and illegal weapons, while Amit has two past theft cases.

During questioning, Gupta revealed, “he had deposited ₹5.2 lakh in his brother’s bank account and purchased jewellery worth ₹1.78 lakh for his wife with the looted money.”

Police recovered ₹29.25 lakh of the stolen money and took the motorcycle used in the crime.

They are still searching for two more people involved, including a man named Pankaj, who is believed to have provided the pistol, police said.
