Delhi Pollution Crisis: Delhi continues to grapple with deteriorating pollution levels as the air quality dipped into the ‘severe category’ on Saturday. In view of the alarming levels of pollution, all schools in Noida will conduct online classes till November 27, news agency PTI cited an official order.
According to the CPCB, a thick layer of smog engulfed the National Capital on Sunday as the Air Quality Index in several areas continues to remain in the ‘Very Poor’ category.
Schools To Remain Online Till Nov 27
Physical classes in the district had already been suspended last week by the district administration due to hazardous levels of air quality in the region.
According to an order issued by District Inspector of Schools (DIOS) Dharamvir Singh, “Given the instructions issued by the District Magistrate, Gautam Buddha Nagar, on November 18, physical classes for all students from pre-school to class 12 have been suspended in light of the AQI in Delhi-NCR falling into the severe category (450). All schools in the district are directed to follow the issued order until November 25.”

Resident Concerns Grow Amidst Rising Pollution
On Delhi pollution, a resident said, “Pollution is increasing day by day. It is a concerning matter. The people go for morning walks and being exposed to pollution at this hour is concerning.”

Delhi AQI Slips To ‘Severe’ Category
According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) bulletin, Delhi’s average AQI was recorded at 412 on Saturday at 4 pm. Also, about 17 stations reported severe air quality as of 7 pm, with Wazirpur being the most polluted with an AQI of 440.
The following AQI levels were recorded on Sunday across different areas: Institute of Tool Engineering, Wazirpur (262), Alipur (206), Narela (274), Punjab Bagh (252), Mundka (243) and R.K. Puram (242), as of 7 AM on Sunday.
Supreme Court To Review GRAP-4 Restrictions On Nov 25
The Supreme Court on Friday, Nov 22 agreed to review easing the Graded Response Action Plan – 4 (GRAP-4) restrictions in Delhi on November 25 after CAQM claimed the air quality in National Capital Region has entered a relatively easy-to-breathe GRAP-2 stage over the last two days.
A Bench headed by Justice A.S. Oka, however, said that its call on Monday (November 25, 2024) would rely on what its 13 Court Commissioners would report from their field visits to border entry points to the national capital.
