Delhi Pollution: City Chokes With ‘Severe’ Air Quality; Residents Flock To Night Shelter Homes Amid Cold Wave

IMD has predicted a clear sky in Delhi till December 20 with predominant surface wind from northeast and southeast direction blowing at a speed of less than 4 kmph during morning hours.

Delhi Pollution: The air quality continued to remain in the ‘severe’ category after breaching the 400 mark since Monday night. The overall Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded as 441 at 6 am on Wednesday. A layer of fog covered parts of Delhi as the minimum temperature dropped to 5°C, as per IMD. GRAP stage IV measures have also been reintroduced in the entire NCR since December 16 in the wake of deteriorating pollution levels.

According to IMD, the temperature dipped to 5°C today morning as a thick log of smog engulfed the national capital. Amid worsening AQI and cold waves, People were seen seeking refuge in the night shelter homes in different parts of the city.

Additionally, a rise in minimum temperature up to 1°C was recorded across Delhi/NCR during the past 24 hours. The maximum and minimum temperatures are in the range of 20 to 24°C and 05 to 08°C respectively. IMD has predicted a clear sky in Delhi till December 20 with predominant surface wind from northeast and southeast direction blowing at a speed of less than 4 kmph during morning hours.

AQI In Different Parts Of Delhi

According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the following AQIs were reported in different parts of Delhi as of 6 am today: Okhla Phase 2 (467), Alipur (473), Rohini (466), ITO (455), Ashok Vihar (461), Wajipur (466), Shadipur (421), Mundka (473), Jahangirpuri (469), Narela (463), DTU (432), R.K. Puram (462), Anand Vihar (481), Pusa (415), and Punjabi Bagh (460).
