Delhi Pollution

Delhi: January is here, and with it, the cold wave conditions continue to intensify across India, particularly in the northern states. Amid this, many homeless people were seen seeking refuge in the night-shelter homes as the temperature dipped to 10°C in Delhi/NCR. Due to low visibility caused by dense fog, low movement of traffic was witnessed in the Satya Niketan and Moti Bagh areas during the early hours of Thursday.

The city experienced its 3rd consecutive day of cold wave conditions on New Year Day. According to the India Meteorological Department, there has been a significant fall in minimum temperature up to 02°C over the national capital during the past 24 hours. The maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded in the range of 15 to 18°C and 6 to 8°C respectively.

Meanwhile, the IMD has warned against prolonged cold wave and dense fog which might lead to an increased chance of catching flu, running/stuffy nose or nosebleed. Residents are advised to stay indoors as frostbite may occur resulting in pale, hard and numb skin. Dense fog is said to impact airports, highways and railway routes in the areas of met- sub-division.

The overall AQI was recorded at 278 on Wednesda7 at 6 AM under ‘poor’ category, according to SAFAR-India. The air quality index (AQI) data for Delhi/NCR was unavailable for Thursday.
