Delhi Pollution: AQI Returns To ‘Very Poor’ Category Again – When Can Residents Expect Relief?

With a dip in temperature, the city is likely to experience a surge in cold waves and pollution levels in the coming days.

Delhi Pollution

Delhi Pollution: The AQI in the national capital stood at an alarming 342 under the ‘very poor category at 6 am on Monday after constantly remaining in the ‘poor’ category for many days. The sudden shift in the air quality is due to various contributing factors such as low wind speed, vehicular emissions, temperature drop, stubble burning, etc. According to IMD, Delhi experienced a sharp decline in minimum temperature up to 3°C during the past 24 hours. There will be mainly a clear sky in the city till December 18.

The Maximum and Minimum temperatures in Delhi were recorded in the range of 21 to 23°C and 5 to 08°C respectively. With a dip in temperature, the city is likely to experience a surge in cold waves and pollution levels in the coming days.

When Can Residents Expect Relief?

Significant improvement in the air quality may not immediately occur, however, residents can expect some relief in the coming days only if weather conditions change. Wind speeds are expected to currently remain at or below 5 kmph, according to reports. Additionally, temperatures may likely stay below average with substantial humidity levels.

The situation is being closely monitored by the authorities and strict measures under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) are in place. Until then, residents are advised to stay indoors, wear masks in public and take necessary precautions.
