The air quality in the national capital remains in the ‘Very Poor’ category for the second consecutive day this week. The AQI was recorded at 310 on Tuesday at 6 am, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). The inclement weather and cold wave conditions gripped Delhi in the early hours of Monday accompanied by a temperature dip and chilly winds. Light rain also lashed the national capital yesterday.
Yellow Alert For Dense Fog
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued yellow alert for dense fog today with maximum and minimum temperature of 19 and 8 degrees respectively. The maximum and minimum temperatures over. Delhi are in the range of 17 to 19°C and 9 to 10°C respectively.

When Can Residents Expect Relief?
About the trend of AQI in coming days, CAQM said that it is likely to remain in ‘Poor’ category in coming days due to faovourable meteorological conditions. CAQM said, “Owing to the favourable meteorological conditions and better wind speed, the AQI of Delhi has been continuously improving and has been recorded as 339 at 4:00 PM and 335 at 5:00 PM and the trend/ forecast indicates the AQI levels to further go down. As per the Air Quality and Weather, forecast provided by IMD/ IITM, there is a further likelihood of AQI of Delhi to remain in ‘Poor’ category in the coming days owing to favourable meteorological conditions.”
IMD in its 7 days forecast for Delhi, has predicted rain and thundershowers on 11 and 12 January. Experts have predicted that this might bring some relief from the deteriorating air pollution.
Furthermore, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) on Sunday revoked the Stage-III actions under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) in Delhi-NCR following a significant improvement in AQI. However, Stage-I and Stage-II measures remain in effect.
