Delhi Pollution: Delhi residents woke up to light rain amid a cold wave on Thursday morning. The air quality continues to remain in the ‘poor’ category for the third consecutive day this week. The AQI was recorded at 262 at 6 am, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted light rain over the national capital today.
The maximum and minimum temperatures will remain 22 and 12 degrees Celsius respectively today.
AQI Across Delhi
Anand Vihar (320), Jahangirpuri (317), Vivek Vihar (305), Wazirpur (289), Okhla Phase-2 (269), Rohini (298), Ashok Vihar (291), Patparganj (287), Pusa (268), ITO (263), Najafgarh (234), R K Puram (249), Shadipur (203).
AQI Forecast For Next 5 Days
The slight improvement in the AQI has been attributed to favourable meteorological conditions. According to the Air Quality Early Warning System For Delhi, the air quality is likely to be in ‘Poor’ category from 23 January to 25 January. For the subsequent 6 Days, it’s predicted to remain likely in ‘Poor’ to ‘Very Poor’ category.
Experts have predicted that light showers will provide temporary relief from the city’s ongoing pollution by settling dust particles and slightly improving air quality. However, the extent of improvement depends on the duration and intensity of the rain. While heavy rain is likely to have more impact, light showers offer a temporary improvement.
Anti-Pollution Measures In Delhi
The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) on 17 January, revoked Stage-III measures under the revised Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), effective immediately across Delhi- NCR after air quality deteriorated. However, actions under Stage-I and II of extant GRAP measures are intensified to prevent AQI from slipping down further.
While revoking GRAP III measures, CAQM said that there is a likelihood of AQI to remain in lower end of the Very Poor category in the coming days owing to the favourable meteorological conditions and strong wind speeds. The prediction has been made on the basis of air quality and weather forecast provided by IMD/IITM.
