Delhi Pollution: The air quality in the national capital remained in the ‘severe’ category, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). The AQI was recorded at 410 at 6 a.m. on Monday. A thin layer of fog covered parts of Delhi, affecting visibility. The minimum temperature in Delhi was recorded at 9.2 degrees Celsius at 5:30 a.m., according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The IMD has forecasted a cloudy sky in Delhi, with light rain expected to lash the capital.

Residents Report Problems
Amid the ongoing cold wave and worsening air pollution, residents have reported a range of health and environmental issues.
Speaking to ANI, a rider who came from Noida said that he faced trouble riding when he entered Delhi due to the pollution. “I ride on Sundays and once a day I ride my bike. So I used to ride more from Noida and was feeling good there. As soon as I entered Delhi, my eyes started burning and fog started to appear. I have to take the helmet mirror off repeatedly and there is a lot of problem here in Delhi,” he added.
Another rider said, “I ride every Sunday. When I entered Delhi from Noida, I felt that the pollution was increasing here. I am having a lot of trouble breathing and riding a bike because I have to take off my helmet.”
GRAP IV Measures In Effect
Delhi’s air quality has been fluctuating between the ‘very poor’ and ‘severe’ categories. Notably, GRAP Stage IV measures have been in effect across the entire NCR since December 16 due to the deterioration in air quality.
Furthermore, the Supreme Court on Thursday, directed the states of Uttar Pradesh and Haryana to implement complete bans on firecrackers similar to that imposed in Delhi.
The apex court was hearing matter pertaining to air pollution in Delhi-NCR, with focus on the year-round ban on firecrackers, the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), and implementation of the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016.
It also directed the NCR states to constitute multiple teams comprising officials of the police, revenue, and other departments to visit entry points to Delhi and monitor compliance with GRAP IV measures.
