Delhi Pollution: The Air quality breached the 400 mark under the ‘severe’ category at 10 pm on Monday night. This sudden shift in the air quality from ‘very poor’ to ‘severe’ prompted the Sub-Committee of the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) to call for an emergency meeting. In the wake of deteriorating AQI, the committee imposed Stage IV of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) with ‘immediate effect’ on December 16. The overall AQI in Delhi was recorded at 418 at 6 am on Tuesday.
According to IMD, Delhi experienced a sharp decline in minimum temperature up to 7°C. There will be mainly a clear sky in the city till December 19. The Maximum and Minimum temperatures in Delhi were recorded in the range of 20 to 23°C and 4 to 7°C, respectively. As the temperature dipped, the city continued to experience a surge in cold waves, with people taking refuge in night shelter homes.
