Air quality in Delhi has plunged to ‘very poor’ category with a thick layer of smog engulfing the national capital. Delhi’s AQI had remained in the ‘very poor’ category for three consecutive days until Tuesday, but slipped back to the ‘poor’ category by 11 pm. This showed a slight improvement from the past week of ‘severe’ AQI as the strong surface-level winds have helped to disperse pollutants.
At 6 am, the Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 301 on Wednesday, which falls under the ‘very poor’ category, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
AQI recorded from different parts of Delhi: Ashok Vihar (316), Alipur (311), Bawana (343), Burari Crossing (301), Jahangirpuri (330), Mundka (352), Patparganj (309), R K Puram (306), Rohini (325), Shadipur (375), Wazirpur (331), Punjabi Bagh (327).

Earlier, in compliance with the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) order, the Directorate of Education, Government of Delhi, had issued instructions to the heads of all government, government-aided, and unaided recognised private schools under its jurisdiction, as well as the NDMC, MCD, and Delhi Cantonment Board to conduct classes in hybrid mode for students of all classes with immediate effect until further orders.
This decision followed the Supreme Court’s order dated which directed the CAQM to review GRAP restrictions in light of their impact on education. The court emphasised the need to prioritise education while raising several concerns.
Delhi Govt Intensifies Efforts
Delhi Government has been continuously working to mitigate the air pollution level, assured the Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai. He said that AAP government is continuously working to mitigate the level of pollution in Delhi; entry has been banned for those vehicles which cause pollution, as GRAP 4 is implemented. Rai also said that he has inspected some entry points himself.
