5-G at Delhi Metro: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) set to introduce 5G connectivity to 69 underground metro stations across the capital region of India. 29 metro stations are already upgraded and the project is underway at 40 more stations.
The DMRC’s current underground network covers over 100 kilometres out of its total network of over 390 kilometres. While 4G services are already functional throughout the metro network, the introduction of 5G is set to revolutionise the commuting experience. Now, Commuters are able to experience seamless 5-G connectivity at all Metro Stations soon.
The installation of cabling and equipment required for 5G mobile connectivity at these underground stations is expected to be completed within 5 months. This swift timeline is made possible by carrying out the work exclusively during the night hours when metro usage is minimal. Key players in the Indian telecommunications sector, including Bharti Airtel, Reliance Jio, and Vodafone Idea, have been approached to provide the essential 5G connectivity at these underground stations.
G-G rollout across India will be another milestone. As per the report of Economic Times, Nearly 240 telecom towers have been used in the high corridors to expand the coverage of mobile in an area of nearly 250 metres, whereas the smaller cells support enhanced mobile coverage in areas of around 100 metres.
This step is poised to become a significant milestone in India’s ongoing 5G rollout upon successful completion. The country’s progress in adopting 5G technology has been notably rapid, and the introduction of seamless connectivity within Delhi’s metro stations marks yet another stride forward.
