Good News! Delhi Govt Reopens Chhath Puja Ghat Near Yamuna Bank Metro for Devotees After Years of Hiatus

The four-day-long Chhath Puja has begun on Saturday, October 25 and will continue until October 28, 2025. One of the most revered and vibrant festivals, Chhath Puja is celebrated in parts of India and Nepal.

There is good news for devotees observing Chhath Puja in Delhi as the Delhi Government has given permission to reopen the Chhath Puja Ghat located under the pontoon bridge near Yamuna Bank Metro Station. The decision follows a request by residents of East Delhi from the Purvanchal community, which was conveyed to officials by Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva, according to a BJP release.

Ghat Near Yamuna Bank Metro Reopens After Years of Hiatus

Representatives of the Purvanchal community met Sachdeva on Friday and highlighted that the Chhath Puja Ghat had been closed in 2020 by the Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP government. Following these discussions, the authorities approved the ghat’s reopening on Saturday.

The members of Bihar Jagran Manch also requested Virendra Sachdeva to help reopen the Chhath Ghat. Sachdeva then spoke with local officials and obtained permission to reconstruct the ghat, added the release. NDMC member Dinesh Pratap Singh, MLA Abhay Verma, Shahdara District BJP President Deepak Gaba, Delhi BJP Purvanchal Morcha President Santosh Ojha, Councillor Sandeep Kapoor, and Bihar Jagran Manch members participated in the cleanliness drive at the ghat.

Earlier on Saturday morning, Sachdeva visited the under-construction Chhath Ghat beneath the Yamuna Bank Metro Station and participated in the cleaning drive. Speaking on the occasion, Sachdeva asserted that by building the ghat, the aspirations of the Bihar community living in nearby areas like Laxmi Nagar and Pandav Nagar have been fulfilled. He claimed that while the Kejriwal government used to obstruct religious and cultural festivals, the BJP government led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta is promoting celebrations filled with joy and enthusiasm among the people.
