New Delhi: A six-year-old girl was allegedly sexual assaulted by a senior at a private school in Begumpur, northwest of Delhi, Rohini last month. The victim’s mother filed a complaint, claiming that on August 23, her daughter was physically assaulted on the bus.
The police arrested the accused and registered an FIR. Noting the incident, Delhi Women’s Commission Chairman Swati Maliwal said on Saturday that the school was pressuring the girl’s parents to withdraw the complaint.
The commission sent notice to the police, who replied that a case has been registered under Sections 354 and 228A of the Indian Penal Code as well as Sections 10 and 21 of the Child Protection from Crime and Crime Act and Sex.

According to the girl’s father, she was assaulted by a male student while they were both on the school bus. In a letter to police, Maliwal said, “When the daughter’s school bus dropped her at the society’s gate, her bag was wet due to urine. Upon inquiry, the girl said that a senior student had been molesting her on the school bus.”
“The parents reported the incident to the school’s vice-principal and principal the following day. However, on August 25, the school’s chairman contacted them and requested them to withdraw the complaint. The girl’s mother also alleged that the chairman disclosed the child’s identity to people in their society,” she added.
Neither a Girl Child Or 85-year-old Woman Are Safe
DCW has sought additional information on the case from police, including a copy of the FIR. Further, it has inquired whether a case under Pocso has been filed against the school chairman, school manager, principal, vice-principal and the school itself for allegedly concealing the matter.
It has asked for a detailed report on the incident by September 5 and the action undertaken against the school administration. “From an 85-year-old woman to a six-year-old child, is anyone safe? ” remarked Maliwal on social media, alluding to the rape of an octogenarian in northwest Delhi’s Shakurpur on Friday.
