The BJP has swung into action and preparations are being made to make the stage ready before 4.30 PM on February 20, when Delhi’s new chief minister and the council of ministers are expected to take oath of office.
However, the saffron party is yet to decide who will be the next chief minister of the state who will join his cabinet.
The BJP has been struggling with the idea of finding a suitable candidate for the top post of the national capital since February 8, when the results were declared.
Is BJP Divided Within?
Analysts believe the main reasons behind the inordinate delay are the caste-equations, inner-party power struggle and the reluctance to accept the dictates of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.
Immediately after the Delhi Elections were declared, names like Parvesh Sahib Singh, Vijender Gupta, Rekha Gupta, Ashish Sood, Satish Upadhyay and Shikha Roy began doing the rounds.
However, the saffron party is divided within over the issue and there is no consensus on the formula for selecting the candidate.
Will Jat Rule Return?
Many in the party believe that considering the dominance of the Jat community in Delhi and the adjoining areas particularly Haryana and western Uttar Pradesh, a leader from this community should be given a chance.
Sahib Singh Verma was the last Jat ruler of Delhi, who was the Delhi Chief Minister from 1996 to 1998.
Though two-time MP Parvesh Singh Verma meets this requirement, his aggressive Hindutva may dampen his chances.
Aggressive Hindutva Leader To Get Office?
However, people also argue that the saffron party may bet on pro-Hindutva politics.
It if happens, Kapil Mishra may be another contender along with Verma.
Will Bihar Decide Delhi’s CM?
Some insiders believe that considering the Bihar Elections, where the BJP is with JD(U) and its leader Nitish Kumar, the saffron party may not create hype on the pro-Hindutva politics.
If Bihar Elections become a factor in deciding the Chief Minister of Delhi, Purvanchalis can not be ignored and former Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari may be the natural choice.
However, some leaders in the party argue against selecting an MP for the post as it may send wrong singals to the electorate.
Will RSS Appoint Its Swayamsevak?
Political observers believe the RSS may emerge as the kingmaker eventually and impose its choice on the party.
The BJP will find it extremely difficult to ignore the decision of the RSS considering the role the organisation has played in the elections.
The BJP has not yet made the decision, no one knows exactly who will be the Chief Minister of Delhi. The saffron party may choose from Rekha Gupta, Ashish Sood, Satish Upadhyay and Shikha Roy.
However, an expected face may also emerge as it happened in Haryana, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh.
Will former Union minister and close confidante of Prime Minister Narendra Modi emerge as the dark horse, shocking everyone?
