Delhi: Active COVID-19 Cases Cross 700, 42 Fresh Cases In a Day; 7 Deaths Reported So Far

The rapid surge is driven by the new Omicron sub-variants - JN.1, NB.1.8.1, LF.7, and XFC. Although the transmissibility has increased, mild symptoms have been observed in those affected.

Delhi: The total number of active COVID-19 cases in Delhi crossed 700 on Tuesday, as 42 fresh cases were reported in the past 24 hours. 7 coronavirus patients have died in the national capital so far. According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, there are currently a total of 6,815 active COVID cases in the country. Among the most affected states are Kerala, with over 2000 active COVID-19 cases. It is followed by Gujarat, West Bengal, and Delhi.

WHO Says, ‘Not Concerning’

The rapid surge is driven by the new Omicron sub-variants – JN.1, NB.1.8.1, LF.7, and XFC. Although the transmissibility has increased, mild symptoms have been observed in those affected. The World Health Organization (WHO) has, however, classified the variants as ‘cautionary’ but not of concern. Amid rising COVID-19 cases, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta had earlier said that the cases have not reached the point where people need to worry.

Delhi Recorded 104 Cases Till Monday

Delhi had 104 active cases of COVID-19 till Monday, June 10. According to Health officials, a total of 24 patients recovered last week. Meanwhile, in a review meeting on June 9, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee advised citizens to remain alert and avoid panic. She said that the government hospitals have all the facilities available for treatment. The situation is not severe as of now, and it is a kind of influenza, she added.
