Jewar: In a heartening development for farmers affected by the Noida International Airport expansion project, compensation distribution has officially commenced. Starting today, September 4, 2023, approximately 9,000 farmers will begin receiving compensation totaling around ₹3,900 crores.
This significant step is aimed at alleviating the impact of land acquisition for the airport expansion. The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) has assembled a team of 25 officials and employees to oversee this crucial process.
Compensation for farmers in six villages
Under the second phase of the Noida International Airport’s expansion, YEIDA is acquiring 1,181 hectares of land from villages such as Jevarkhera, Kureb, Karoulibagar, Dayantpur, Veermapur, and Mudhera. The authority had previously announced compensation at ₹3,398 per square meter for affected farmers. Additionally, there is a proposal in the works to provide the government with ₹300 per square meter as interest on the compensation amount.
Presence of bank officials
YEIDA has put together a team of officials to distribute compensation directly to the affected farmers’ bank accounts. This process is being conducted with utmost transparency, and bank officers are also present at the scene to ensure a smooth and efficient payment transfer.
Anticipated flights from 2023
The Noida International Airport is on the verge of having a functional runway. Reports suggest that by December 2023, flights will begin operating from the airport. Currently, 24/7 work is underway at the construction site, and the workforce is set to expand to 8,000 individuals next month.
