A 32-year-old commercial pilot was caught by the Delhi police for allegedly recording obscene videos of women by placing a spy camera between his toes. The police have recovered around 74 videos from the accused Mohit Priyadarshi’s mobile phone. Police on Friday said the accused is a “repeat offender” as they recovered a spy camera from his possession, which has more than 74 private and objectionable videos.
The accused has been identified as Mohit Priyadarshi, 31, a resident of the Civil Lines area in Agra (Uttar Pradesh). The police is also investigating the 74 videos in his possession. They are trying to locate the places and victims of those he has allegedly filmed. They are also enquiring whether he has sexually harassed his co-workers or others in airports or on board an aircraft.
What Happened?
Priyadarshi was arrested by the Delhi police from the paying guest accommodation where he stays in the city. According to two senior police officers, he has been stalking, recording, and harassing unknown women for over a year. The case came to light on August 30 in Shani Bazaar, Kishangarh, when a woman in her 20s noticed a man following her while using a “lighter-shaped” device with a hidden camera to record her. She managed to escape and approached the police, who then registered a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 77 (voyeurism) and 78 (stalking).
The police in a media statement said that, considering the sensitivity of the incident, a dedicated team was formed to probe the complaint.
The investigation team included Sub Inspector Divya Yadav, Head Constable Yogesh, HC Shyam Sundar, Constable Mohan, and Ct. Vikas, working under the leadership of Inspector Ajai Kumar Yadav, SHO/Kishangarh, with overall supervision by ACP Melvyn Varghese of Safdarjung Enclave, Delhi. CCTV footage of the surrounding area was carefully examined, and the suspect’s picture was circulated. Local beat staff and secret informers were activated to gather intelligence, which helped the police successfully apprehend the accused. During sustained questioning, he confessed to his involvement and was arrested. The police stated that the accused, Mohit Priyadarshi, is employed as a pilot with a private airline. He is unmarried and admitted that he made the videos for personal gratification. A hidden spy camera shaped like a lighter was also recovered from him.
