Chinese National Arrested In Rs 100 Crore Cyber Fraud Case – How Did Delhi Police Nab Him?

In a shocking incident, a Chinese national has been arrested by the Delhi police in connection with Rs 43.5 lakh cyber fraud case. The accused has been identified as Fang Chenjin. Shahdara Cyber Police arrested him after meticulous investigation. Chenjin resided at Safdarjung Enclave in Delhi. Investigation revealed that Fang Chenjin was linked to two other significant fraud cases involving cybercrime and money laundering in Andhra Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.

How Did Police Nab Him?

Police acted on the complaint lodged by Suresh Kolichiyil Achuthan on July 24 at the Cyber Crime Portal. The complainant said that he was lured into fraudulent stock market training sessions and subsequently tricked into investing Rs. 43.5 lakhs in several transactions. These investments were directed to multiple bank accounts controlled by the fraudsters.

DCP said, “17 criminal complaints registered with the Cyber Crime Portal, were all linked to the same Fincare Bank account with the total amount defrauded exceeding Rs. 100 crores.”

Details of bank accounts in which cheated amount had been transferred was obtained and call details of suspect mobile number were analysed. Police conducted thorough investigation in terms of bank accounts and mobile numbers connected to the all the suspect persons. Technical analysis and investigation connected it to fraud.

The team then traced the funds to a bank account in the name of Maha Laxmi Traders located in Mundka, Delhi. This particular account was found to be linked to fraudulent transactions. Further inquiry revealed a mobile phone registered and this led the team to Fang Chenjin.

Chenjin was arrested and phone was recovered from him. Police also investigated the WhatsApp messages which clearly showed Chenjin’s conversation with the associate. The chats highlighted his involvement in directing the fraudulent activities.

WhatsApp chat revealed Fang Chenjin instructed his associate to recharge the mobile number involved in the fraud.

Further investigation is underway, stated the police.
