New Delhi: The central government has reportedly issued notification to Delhi for redrawing its districts ahead of the civic polls.
According to NDTV report, delimitation notification has been issued.
The election, initially scheduled for March were pushed back, with the Centre’s plan to unify Delhi’s three MCDs.
There will now be 250 wards in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi — down from 272 — of which 42 will be reserved for the Scheduled Castes, NDTV reported.
The delimitation committee submitted to the Centre its final report on redrawing the wards of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Monday, news agency PTI earlier reported quoting official sources as saying.
Citing sources the report said that the Centre is likely approve the final report by the delimitation committeeto by the end of this week.
With the development, the Centre is likely to direct the state election commission to initiate the poll process.
The delimitation exercise in Delhi was last conducted in 2016 and the number of wards was kept at 272 with each having an average population of 60,000 considering a variation of 10 to 15 per cent.
