There is good news for commuters as travel from Delhi to the upcoming Noida International Airport is set to become faster, more convenient, and hassle-free. In a significant development, authorities are considering realignment of the proposed route from Siddharth Vihar in Ghaziabad directly to Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi. The travel corridors between Noida and Delhi are among the busiest in the country and caters to millions of commuters every day.
What’s the plan?
If the project is implemented, it will be a game-changer for Delhi-NCR connectivity, offering fastest route to the airport. Earlier, the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) had prepared a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for a 72.4-kilometre-long Namo Bharat Metro corridor connecting Siddharth Vihar in Ghaziabad to Noida Airport. The project, costing approximately Rs 20,637 crore, proposed 22 stations along the route.
However, the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) returned the DPR, noting that the route did not provide direct connectivity between Delhi and Noida Airport. According to the ministry, a direct link is required to allow smooth diversion of Delhi’s traffic to the airport without diversions. Following this directive, the route is now being revised under a new plan.
Sarai Kale Khan to be linked with Jewar Airport
Sarai Kale Khan is set to be the starting point of the new route, with both the Namo Bharat and Metro services running directly from there to Jewar Airport. The proposed route will pass through Noida City Centre, NSEZ, Surajpur, Knowledge Park-3, Pari Chowk, Ecotech-6, Dankaur, YEIDA Sectors 18 and 21, before terminating at the airport. According to reports, the final number of stations, total route length, and cost of the project will be decided once the feasibility report is complete.
