Whether local eateries or five-star restaurants, a hearty meal including rice, chapati, vegetable curry, and pickle would easily cost between Rs 500 and 2,000. But imagine if people who struggle to afford daily meals get a wholesome thali at one-tenth the price. Yes, it is true. Meals will indeed be provided at just Rs 5 at 100 locations across the national capital.
CM Rekha Gupta-led Delhi Government on Thursday (December 25, 2025) launched the 'Atal Canteen' scheme. The Rs 5 per plate scheme was announced to commemorate the 101st birth anniversary of Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Now, 100s of Atal Canteens will provide nutritious meals with dignity to the poor people, low-income labourers, and underprivileged families. "Atal Canteen will become the soul of Delhi, a place where no one should have to sleep hungry," CM Rekha Gupta said.
