But imagine if people who struggle to afford daily meals get a wholesome thali at one-tenth the price. Yes, it is true. Meals will indeed be provided at just Rs 5 at 100 locations across the national capital.
CM Rekha Gupta-led Delhi Government on Thursday (December 25, 2025) launched the ‘Atal Canteen’ scheme. The Rs 5 per plate scheme was announced to commemorate the 101st birth anniversary of Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Now, 100s of Atal Canteens will provide nutritious meals with dignity to the poor people, low-income labourers, and underprivileged families. “Atal Canteen will become the soul of Delhi, a place where no one should have to sleep hungry,” CM Rekha Gupta said.

Atal Canteen: Locations and Timings
The Delhi government today opened doors to 45 Atal canteens across key locations in Delhi. The areas include RK Puram, Jangpura, Narela, Rajouri Garden, Bawana, Shalimar Bagh, and Greater Kailash. The remaining 55 canteens will be operational in the coming days.
The Atal Canteens will serve two meals a day.
- Lunch will be available between 11 am and 4 pm
- Dinner will be provided between 6:30 pm and 9:30 pm

The thali (plate) will comprise dal (legume), rice, chapati, a seasonal vegetable, and pickle.
