4.0 Magnitude Earthquake Jolts Delhi-NCR, Residents Flee Homes In Panic

Strong Tremors lasting a few seconds were felt in the residential areas, causing panic among people who fled their homes.

New Delhi: A 4.0-magnitude earthquake hit Delhi/NCR at 5:36 am today, the National Center for Seismology reported. Strong Tremors lasting a few seconds were felt across the national capital and surrounding areas, causing panic among people who fled their homes. There are no immediate reports of casualties or destruction due to the quake.

Panic spread quickly as the ground trembled beneath people. Vendors and commuters were caught off-guard at the New Delhi Railway Station. A vendor Anish said, “Everything was shaking. Customers started screaming.”

A passenger awaiting his train at the city’s busiest railway station said, “We felt as if any train was running here underground. Everything was shaking.”

Another passenger at the New Delhi railway station remarked, “I was in the waiting lounge. All rushed out from there. It felt as if any bridge or something had collapsed.”

Meanwhile, a resident of Ghaziabad noted, “Tremors were so strong. I have never felt like this ever before. The entire building was shaking.”

Political leaders also took to their respective social media handles to share their reactions. BJP’s Tajinder Bagga wrote on X, “Earthquake?” while Caretaker CM Atishi prayed for everyone’s safety.

In an X post, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “Tremors were felt in Delhi and nearby areas. Urging everyone to stay calm and follow safety precautions, staying alert for possible aftershocks. Authorities are keeping a close watch on the situation.”
