Delhi-NCR Traffic Police ‘Surgical Strike’ on pollution, vehicles with invalid certificate, be extra cautious if CAUGHT …

Delhi-NCR News: 46,921 vehicles have been challaned for operating without the valid pollution certificate since GRAP began this season (October 14 to November 2).

Delhi-NCR News: The Delhi Traffic Police issued 16% more challans in the first ten months of 2025 than the previous year, 2024. The most challans were given to polluting vehicles, totaling 7,12,132. They weren’t carrying a valid pollution certificate. Last year, 5,98,136 vehicles were challaned.

GRAP Implementation Effect

In the 19 days since the implementation of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) this season (October 14 to November 2), 46,921 cars have been challaned for operating without valid pollution certifications. During GRAP’s winter season, from October 1 to November 2, 72,185 vehicles were challaned in 33 days. The Delhi Police Traffic Unit’s data shows that there were 61.2% more challans issued in 2024 than in 2023. In 2024, there were 598136 challans, compared to 232020 in 2023.

Invalid Pollution Certificate Penalty

The penalty for operating a vehicle without a valid pollution certificate is Rs 10,000. There is a Rs 20,000 fine for vehicles that carry trash in the open. Over the past 19 days, 204 vehicles that were openly dumping trash and other items have been challaned. This year, there have been 1103 challans issued in total. The data indicates that vehicles older than ten and fifteen years are also being seized.

No Entry for These Vehicles in Delhi

All BS-III and below-standard commercial goods trucks that are not registered in Delhi are prohibited from entering the nation’s capital beginning on Saturday, November 1, according to the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM). The action is intended to improve the deteriorating air quality in Delhi and the surrounding areas.

The Commission stated in a statement that the decision is a part of larger initiatives to lower vehicle emissions, which are one of the primary causes of the city’s extreme wintertime air pollution.
