The Delhi-Meerut RRTS, an ambitious venture set to redefine India’s transportation landscape, is poised for a grand inauguration. On October 20, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will officially unveil the priority section of the Rapid Regional Transit System, known as RAPIDX. Covering the stretch between Duhai and Sahibabad, this 17-kilometer priority section features five crucial stations: Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai, and Duhai Depot. As this transformative project gears up for its momentous launch, here are seven key highlights to anticipate:
1. Swift Connectivity: Upon its anticipated completion in 2025, the Delhi-Meerut RRTS will facilitate seamless travel over an impressive 82-kilometre route within just one hour.
2. NCRTC at the Helm: The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) is spearheading this groundbreaking project, promising a radical shift in regional transportation.
3. Record-Breaking Speed: RAPIDX is set to be the nation’s first railway system with a remarkable maximum operational speed of 160 kmph along its entire length. With an average speed of 100 kmph, these RAPIDX trains will outpace both traditional metro systems and Indian Railways’ passenger trains.

4. Safety Certification: In June of this year, the Commissioner for Metro Rail Safety (CMRS), Government of India, greenlit the operations for the RRTS, marking a significant milestone.
5. Rolling Stock Development: The Ministry of Railways has approved the RRTS rolling stock train sets. These trains are designed for a maximum speed of 180 kmph but will operate at 160 kmph, signifying a substantial leap forward in rail transit. These RAPIDX train sets have been proudly manufactured by Alstom in Gujarat.
6. Cutting-Edge Design: RAPIDX trains will introduce travellers to six coaches, including a Premium coach featuring separate entry and exit points on the platform.
7. Upcoming Fare Announcements: While the fares for RAPIDX remain undisclosed, their revelation is highly anticipated as the priority section’s inauguration approaches. These fares will undoubtedly play a crucial role in shaping the transportation landscape for commuters.
