New Delhi: A 35-year-old man was crushed to death after a span of an under-construction flyover fell on him at the Dwarka expressway in southwest Delhi on Wednesday. Police said that the manager and supervisor were arrested for questioning.
Manoj C, deputy commissioner, of southwest Delhi, said, “One of the spans between two pillars fell on the ground. One JCB was passing underneath and its driver Mohammad Shakeel, 35, a resident of Rajasthan’s Bharatpur, got crushed under the debris. He died during treatment at a hospital.”
He added, “A case under relevant law provisions is being registered. The site supervisor and site manager have been apprehended for investigation.”
DCP said, “It is a construction site where an elevated portion of the Dwarka expressway link Road across NH8 is under construction.”
On March 14, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) diverted traffic on National Highway 48 to allow for the building of this section of the flyover and three underpasses beneath it. For 90 days, the NHAI diverted traffic to this section. The NHAI officials announced on Wednesday morning that they were reopening traffic on this section because the work was finished.
