Jalandhar: A body of a man, probably in his thirties, was found in a red suitcase outside Jalandhar City railway station on Tuesday morning.

According to police, a worker noticed the abandoned red- coloured suitcase lying outside the station at around 6 am.

Assistant commissioner of police (ACP) Om Prakash of the Government Railway Police (GRP) said: “We reached the spot as soon as we received information regarding the body of a man being found in a red suitcase near the bushes just outside Jalandhar city railway station,” as reported by Hindustan Times.

“Forensic teams and a dog squad have started their investigation,” he added.

“Our teams are scrutinising the CCTV footage, which shows a man in his mid-30s dropping the suitcase and heading towards the ticket counter. The body was taken for post-mortem examination, while efforts are on to arrest the accused,” the ACP said.

A first information report (FIR) under sections 302, 201, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code has been registered, while a process to identify the victim is underway, the official said.

The police added that an investigation was under way and the body had been sent for medical examination.
