New Delhi: District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) on Tuesday has withdrawn its decision to deploy school teachers on Covid duty at Delhi airport from December 31 to January 15.

The authority informed that the civil defence staff will do the duty if duty if needed.

In an earlier order, the DDMA had said the teachers will be deployed to ensure that Covid appropriate behaviour is followed by passengers arriving from abroad. The order was not welcomed by the teachers who were assigned the duty. There were a majority of male in the list of Covid duty.

However, the order clearly stated that the teachers wil have to follow the duty otherwise they will have to face consequnces under “Penal code 1860 besides other relevant provisions under the Disaster Management Act 2005, the Epidemic Act 1897 and Regulation.”

It should be noted that the Delhi schools will remain close from Decmber 31 till January 15 for winter vacation. As per the order, the remedial classes can be held for the students of Classes 9 to 12. Meanwhile, all the below classes will be suspended till January 15, 2023.
