Mumbai commuters travelling via Mumbai-Nashik Expressway are likely to face congestion due to essential repairs on the Kasheli Creek bridge. Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) is conducting the repair work. The officials confirmed about the same and said that the repair work will start around 9 am. One lane of the expressway will remain closed from 9 AM onwards, however overall traffic movement will continue. The Kasheli Creek bridge is a crucial link on the expressway. It facilitates vehicular movement between Mumbai, North Maharashtra, and further towards North India. It is also a main access route for vehicles travelling to and from Bhiwandi, which is considered a major logistics hub in Maharashtra.
The Indian Express quoted an officer from MSRDC who stated, “One lane of the bridge will remain closed while repairs are underway, but we have not imposed any restrictions on overall traffic movement.”
Kasheli Creek Bridge Under Scrutiny
Notably, the Kasheli Creek bridge has been under scrutiny after a section of its median collapsed on January 18. Officials have assured that the bridge is safe to be used by commuters, despite the damages. The bridge is a part of the old National Highway 3 (Agra–Bombay Road). As per reports, the wrecked portion is 30-metre section of the median, which belongs to an additional structure built in 1985.
The four-lane bridge, at present accommodates two way traffic. A new parallel bridge is under construction which will serve vehicles heading toward Nashik and beyond. And the existing structure will handle Thane-bound traffic.
