Chennai: An unexpected event unfolded in Chennai on Tuesday morning after a metro train abruptly came to a halt in a subway due to a power failure. Commuters heading towards the Wimco Nagar Depot were forced to walk on the railway track after the metro stopped inside the tunnel between Central and High Court stations.
The stranded passengers in the train stuck in a subway had no other option left than to walk towards the nearby metro station. Chennai Metro Rail’s Blue Line, which runs between the Wimco Nagar Depot and the Airport, faced a technical glitch during the early morning hours.

Commuters walk towards nearby metro station
The video showed commuters holding onto the handrail while trying to look out to understand the issue. After being stuck for at least 10 minutes, passengers said that metro authorities announced that they should walk to the nearby metro station, located just 500 meters away, that is High Court station.
Metro services return to normal
In yet another video, commuters were spotted lining up and walking through the tunnel. Services were resumed after the disruption, likely due to a power outage, was fixed.
In a post on X, the Chennai Metro Rail said, “Metro train services between Airport and Wimco Nagar Depot on Blue Line have resumed normal operation. Puratchi Thalaivar Dr MG Ramachandran Central Metro to St Thomas Mount on the Green Line are also running as per the Normal Schedule.”
