What Happened?

Senthil, a Class 3 student, was about to leave for school and stepped towards the bathroom, while his father, Muthusamy, 40, was at home. A stray dog entered through the compound gate, which had been left open, and attacked the boy, biting his arms, legs, and thigh.

The 1 minute 38 second CCTV footage shows how the dog turned its aggression towards the father, biting his leg and thigh as he tried to protect the child. In the clip, the dog can be seen running around the yard and chasing other members of the family. After several attempts and an hour of struggle, the Madurai Corporation’s animal control team managed to capture the dog.

Both Muthusamy and Senthil were rushed to the Madurai Government Hospital. Senthil received stitches, while both father and son were administered anti-rabies vaccines.

Recent Pit Bull Attack

In another instance of aggressive behaviour by a canine, last week, a Pit Bull severely mauled a seven-year-old girl in Chennai’s Tondiarpet. The girl suffered major injuries to her face and chin.

Following the incident, the child was rushed to the Government Stanley Medical College Hospital. She faced severe tissue damage, and the doctors recommended reconstructive plastic surgery.

The heart-wrenching incident occurred when the child came down to the ground floor from the first floor of a rented house. The dog, which was left unleashed, attacked the child.

Her father was at the scene and rushed to save her. Despite his efforts to pull her away, she sustained serious facial injuries.

Police arrested the dog’s caretaker, Jothi, while the original owner was abroad, according to investigators. The Pit Bull was adopted by Jothi’s family without obtaining a licence to keep it. Authorities say it is mandatory to obtain a licence to keep an animal under local pet ownership rules.

The dog was seized by the Chennai Corporation, which placed it at a civic-body-run animal shelter.
