New Delhi: Tamil Nadu Assembly has passed a resolution against the proposal of the Parliamentary panel which suggested to make Hindi medium of instructions in all central educational institutions.
During the proceedings in the state Assembly, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin urged the Union government not to implement recommendations made in Parliamentary Committee Report as the proposal is “against State languages including Tamil and also against people’s interest who speak those languages.”
The recommendations were made by a panel which Home Minister Amit Shah had headed. The proposal was later submitted to President Droupadi Murmu who is yet to pass order.
BJP walks out
MLAs of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) staged a wal out from the Assembly to oppose the resolution against Hindi imposition.
In its defense, the Union government said the proposal was made in order to lower the usage of English as official language. This, however, is not acceptable by these states at all.
Southern states object
The proposal has been severely criticised by the leaders of Southern states who alleged that the government is attempting to “erode regional languages”.
To oppose the proposal and urge the Union goevrnment and the President not to consider the recommendations, the political outfits along with their supporters in huge number have down to roads to protest.
