Chennai: In a tragic incident, a video journalist was killed in a hit-and-run accident on the Maduravoyal-Tambaram elevated bypass in Chennai on Tuesday night. The deceased has been identified as Pradeep Kumar, resident of Pondy Bazaar, who worked for a Telugu news channel.
He was a cameraperson for the news channel and also worked as a part-time Rapido driver in the city.
At the time of accident, he was riding his bike when a speeding BMW car hit him. The impact of the collision was such that Pradeep’s body was found 100 metres away from the spot. His body was discovered below the highway, India Today reported. The driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the spot after the accident. Authorities were alerted by the passerby who had noticed the damaged vehicle. The report added that the police recovered crashed motorcycle nearby.
What Did The Police Say?
Pradeep’s body was found only after the police attempted to reconstruct the sequence of events and discovered his body on the lower level, about 100 meters from the accident site. Police mentioned that the collision threw his vehicle from the elevated highway and the impact resulted in his death.
Police have launched searched for the driver and further investigation is underway.
In a similar incident yesterday, five people were dead and 15 injured in a collision between a truck and a double-decker bus in Tappal PS area of Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh. CO Khair, Varun Kumar said that the bus was heading towards Azamgarh from Delhi.
