Chennai: To address the growing demand for parking spaces, the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) plans to float a tender to develop state-of-the-art multi-level parking facilities. These projects include commercial complexes in Tiruvottiyur, located in North Chennai, and Kodambakkam, located in Central Chennai. The project will be designed to serve the city for the next 25 years.
The development work on the multi-level parking facilities in the above-mentioned strategic locations will be implemented based on Design, Build, Finance, Operate, and Transfer (DBFOT). To develop the commercial complexes, the Greater Chennai Corporation has reportedly allocated a budget of Rs 5 lakh each. It plans to float the tender on April 23, 2025, reports added. Authorities may chair a pre-bid meeting to modernize the city’s transportation facilities on March 13, 2025.

Additionally, the tender will be opened on the same day at the inviting authority’s office at the Ripon Building. However, if the opening date happens to be a holiday, the bid will be opened on the next working day. Greater Chennai Corporation has been maintaining 1160 roads, spanning 370 Km, and stormwater drains, spanning 962 Km. Additionally, the corporation maintains the street lights in Chennai city using 19 megawatts per day and spends 2 lakhs for electric consumption daily.
